The K&i studio

K&i have been busy... As you know we've bought a house and we are currently renovating the studio. Roof, gutters, windows, and floors have been done, interior walls and ceilings have been painted and now for the fun bit of decorating... A new set office chairs are on their way, blinds have been made, and check out our new-old-storage unit. More photos to come soon.

David Constance - New surfboard company in Muizenberg

We are super stoked to have worked on creating the corporate id and branding for David Constance, a new surfboard company here in Muizenberg. Check out more pics on our website.

Busy-ness

K&i have been flat out busy that we've neglected to update our website in a few months… Well, we've finally got around to it and new work is up! One of which is the annual report we did for Unicef. Check out more pics and the issuu version on our website.

DIY Pallet table

This is super simple to do, and even easier if you don’t have a puppy.

Ingredients: X2 pallets, X1 sheet of 60 grit sandpaper, X1 sheet of 100 grit
sandpaper, X1 dustpan brush, X4 caster wheels, X16 self tapping wood screws, screwdriver to match the head and optional extra’s would be paint/stainer and brush/roller.

Start by sanding down any rough edges and remove splintered ends using the 60 grit sandpaper. It’s not necessary but you can smooth the wood surface even further by using the 100 grit sandpaper after the 60.

With one hand brush the dust, dirt and any loose bits off while fending off the pup with the other hand. It’s probably the trickiest part of the whole job to be honest.

Give the pallets a lick of paint, as much or as little as you like, go safe or be
experimental, make a mess and play like you are a child again. Or you can skip this part and move on if you prefer the raw look.

Carefully measure equidistant sides around the caster wheel - you don’t want to bugger this step up so take your time when measuring like we did...

Get one screw in, and then do the opposite side. Followed by screw three and then four. Continue to fit the remaining wheels.

With all four wheels in place flip and roll your new beauty into your favourite
happy spot.

Check out what we've also made out of pallets, a couch!

After years of looking and dreaming of one day owning our own home... our dream has finally come true!  We are now proud owners of an old 1926 building here in lovely Muizenberg. Lots of work to do to it, as we like to call 'a project'. We are so excited about our new space (more pics to come as we renovate the studio). One nice little find was this artwork in one of the old cupboards, wrapping paper with lovely vintage illustration.

UNICEF - Post

So we had post this morning... we've kept this quiet for some time now but UNICEF's gone live and given us the go ahead to present our work we did for them. What a pleasure to work for such an amazing organisation - including every member of staff we had the pleasure of dealing with.

We shall have the work up on our site and blog some more pics when we get a chance.

K&i + Quirky.Me

Brilliant Ingrid and owner of lovely Quirky.Me contacted us to design a set of placemats, trays and an art piece for this years Design Indaba. Working alongside Ingrid, we came up with a set of birds, eggs, oranges, clouds, fish, flowers and a potjie pot filled with local tasty words. We also designed the flyer.

Medicine and the Politics of Knowledge

A couple of months back we were asked to create the cover of a book called "Medicine and the Politics of Knowledge" for HSRC Press. This is how it came out.

We like old stuff...

As we start renovating our new place we're finding all these interesting things...  Like this one, what looks like a part of an old blind, in solid brass, Made in W Germany, a piece of history right here.

The Joinery

We were approached by The Joinery, an up and coming fashion label designing super cool locally produced organic hemp clothing.

They asked us if we would be interested in putting together their brochure and to create a sticker for their packaging at Design Indaba. They were proudly served as Emerging Creatives at this years Design Indaba, and we know exactly how exciting and overwhelming it can be! So we were super happy to lend our support and create a folded mini A6 brochure alongside a black and white sticker.

Watch out for The Joinery, they won't be emerging for long!

Friday Flowers

You can never have too many Proteas...

Because there are multiple dimensions...

Visi, one of our favourite SA magazines did a short interview on us for their DIY issue, lots of high-fives in the office when that came about!

And a couple of pages prior to our page, is an interview with local Wawa Wooden Surfboards - we're the lot behind their brand!
