On the 30th of October I mentioned that we were making the folks a veggie garden. On the 1st of November I took some pics and today I took a few more to show you the progress, it's unbelievable what you can do in 2 months with this kind of heat...

As you can see there's not much happening yet, a few sticks with labels and a dusting of green bits are just starting to show.

A bit of sun and rain later and all of a sudden there was a plethora of green to be seen. Man it's so good to be eating fresh herbs, it's so hard to beat a cheese and tomato sandwich with fresh basil.

We also built a wooden tepee with washed up wood found on the beach and planted beans and peas underneath it.

Needless to say, they love the sun and rain too.

... super colourful and bursting with flavour.

Another thing we made from recycled beach wood was a climbing wall for tomatoes and cucumbers. Just in front of the climbing wall we also planted loads of lettuce and spinach. Popeye would be proud!




Look, the tomatoes and cucumbers still have a way to go but we've already had the pleasure of munching on the freshest; herbs, beans, peas, radish, lettuce, spinach and some potatoes that sadly didn't even make it to the second photo shoot. Highly enjoyable and so easy to do, I urge you to grow some veg of your own too, it's a must for anyone's new year resolution!

Woopsie, I almost forgot to mention... Props to the fantastic, but not so tough guard dog Jafta, for keeping a close eye on the veggie garden and shying away those pesky moles.

The 13th of December is the Swedish Lucia day. It's a church feast day where the saint of Lucia is celebrated with candles and lots of singing and of course lots of "Lusse katter", a rich saffron bun with raisins. Because it's the world's most expensive spice by weight... we decided to illustrate it instead of bake it this year...

The early bird catches the worm, or the 4:30am sunrise over Southern Africa's coastline. The blog needed a refresh to bring it in line with our new identity and website. So after some cutting and painting we were ready to make it happen, and the best time to make things happen is first thing in the morning when the light is at its best and no wind! We went for a rather abstract image choice in the end but reckon it's rather warming, hope you agree.

A company logo... is easy to produce when it's not your own! We always knew what we wanted the business name to be but hadn't given the logo much serious thought before landing. We read (looked at) magazines and books for inspiration, we wrote, we drew, we trawled the internet for ideas and then we decided to go for a walk on the beach. We worked on the design of it the following day and when we got to a happy place we printed a few out and went onto something else, I can't remember what that was but it may very well be the veg garden we are making for the folks... another picture story to be told.


After leaving the logo to stew in our minds for a few days while stuck up around the house we noted little things we wanted to change. When we noted something we thought would work better we took them down and drew on them. We then sat down in front of the macs again and started tweaking... spot the difference, subtle but very necessary amends in our opinion.

We're stoked, we think it has the right amount of 'Karl' and 'Ida' in there, approachable while professional at the same time, bold yet sensitive too.

Hey, we think it's so cool we started putting it everywhere and below is just the start!

The 'ol man and myself caught some fish, the family ate them. Afterwards we went down to the beach and spotted two alien looking figures holding hands, it was beautiful.

As you might know K&i have relocated to South Africa. But not only that, we are also embarking on setting up our own design company. Here are three posters we've done, as a starter. Let us know how it tastes...

118 photos and a few hours later, we decided not to use this poster as it doesn't reflect the company profile. We had fun using cut outs and playing with the lights, will save for a better opportunity.

Two posters done for a music competition, entered on global moguls. We had to ditch the Rolling Stones cover after they said we couldn't use it... My mate Roland Albertson is the musician, Greg is the film director, and I do the design. Roland stands a chance to get signing and Greg and myself could bask in some of the glory. Get the team to the top by voting on globalmoguls

K+I have landed on what looks to be the moon. Known to some as Queensbury Bay, East London, South Africa...


...after wrapping up in the UK, we had a brilliant one. Thanks.

Blackberry jam, so easy to make and the berries are so easy to pick as they grow pretty much everywhere. Just chuck them in the pot, ad some sugar and let it cook so the jam sets. Had these with pancakes, bliss.

Made a dinner list, thought it might help us to decide what to eat... Sometimes it's just so difficult cause you don't really feel like thinking about what to cook.. If we plan it, we can just make it, without even thinking! Click on the image, or here, to download it. Hope you like it!

Ahhhh.... Sweet Swedish buns, Kanel bullar. They are so good. Worth a try.
Here's the recipe, makes about 35:

2tsp dry yeast
150g butter, melted
2.5dl milk
2.5dl water
2 eggs
1.5dl sugar
1tbs cardamom
0.5tsp salt
13dl flour (keep some for kneading)

For the filling:
150g butter
1dl sugar
1tbs cinnamon

1 egg for brushing and 'pearl sugar' for garnish or dust with icing sugar (as picture)

Mix all dry ingredients. Add all wet ingredients. mix and work the dough until it's firm and elastic. Leave to prove for about 40min.
Leave your butter for the filling out in room temp so it is easy to spread.
Roll out your dough to a rough size of 60*30cm
Spread your butter and dust with the sugar and cinnamon.
Roll it up then divide into pieces. Put into individual paper cases.
Leave to rise for about 30min.
Heat your oven to 250 degrees.
Brush your buns with the egg, bake for 8-10min, then garnish with the sugar. Enjoy!

I wouldn't even talk to myself today... it is Monday after all.

Homemade marmalade and bread...mmmm... I did experiment a little with the flavorings of the marmalade. I would highly recommend orange and basil as a combo. Orange and fennel and orange and cayenne was ok, but wont do it again. Would have loved some nice labels made...hinthint, but had to do with my handwriting.
Then there is the bread. The two at the top are sourdough breads. I just love the texture. Can almost smell them. The baguettes was made using the bread machine to make the dough and then finished in the oven with a tray of water at the bottom to create steam which helps make the bread more crispy on the outside! I'm actually hungry now.
